Certainly,
the onset of 3G technology will have a large impact in consumer
buying patterns. It is not a matter of "if" it is a
matter of when. The impact will be both with handsets, cellular
infrastructure and the need for more bandwidth. One of the stepping
stones for North America is assigning the frequency range G3 and
other mobile services will operate in.
The
NTIA, FCC, DOD and other agencies are examining the potential
use of 1710-1770 and 2110-2170 MHz bands for commercial advanced
wireless services. A
position paper on the frequency allocation is available on
the NTIA web site. A complete spectrum
chart can also be obtained from NTIA for reference in both
Acrobat and Wall chart form
